Dr Peter J Shaw, Practice of OptometryDr Shaw is a member of the College of Optometrists of Ontario, He graduated the University of Waterloo in 1978 and has been in general practice with a special interest in vision rehabilitation in Scarborough since 1980. He was a founding clinician at the Vision Institute of Canada and was Chief of Low Vision from 1983 until 1993. He has served on many related committees including those of the Ministry of Health. In 1993 he co-founded the Scarborough Low Vision Centre at the Scarborough Hospital. Over the past thirty years in primary care and vision rehabilitation, Dr Shaw has developed strategies to help his patients cope with many vision limiting impairments. He has developed computer software that addresses the most challenging ophthalmic lens design problems and for vision testing software. They are in use in many clinics and schools of optometry. Lens Wizard is particularly helpful with the design and application of progressive addition lenses and has proven to be a remarkable adjunct to patient satisfaction and comfortable vision. Opsis is a suite of vision testing technologies and, perhaps, the most advanced system available. The Scarborough Low Vision CentreThe Scarborough Low Vision Centre is the first sight enhancement regional assessment centre for the Assistive Devices Programme, Ministry of Health for the Province of Ontario. Established in conjunction with the Low Vision Association of Canada the centre pioneered the integration of the low vision specialist optometrist together with the high technology facilitator/authorizer. Our strength is communication, we can answer most of your questions about vision impairment and technology. We offer a comprehensive range of services in order to assess and provide assistive devices for consumers with serious vision impairment. Optelligence, Technology for Eye Care ProfessionalsResponding to a lack of resources for design and diagnostic tools Dr Shaw established a research and development arm within his practice under the banner Optelligence, a contraction of optometric + intelligence.. We have produced Lens Wizard and new technology Optometrica (using wavefront analysis methods) to accurately model and design ophthalmic lens systems. This is instrumental in order to assist complex vision problems.Opsis, vision testing software for the general practitioner, paediatric and low vision specialist; and in development, differential diagnostic tests for diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and retinal pigment disorders. |
